Opal gemstones have had a checkered history - at one point, they were associated with bad luck but this was irrevocably reversed by Queen Victoria who wore opal jewellery and made gifts of opals to friends and daughters (after, it has to be said, a huge find of opal was made in Australia in 1870, being a British territory at the time)

This is a beautiful Victorian example of opal jewellery. Three fiery opals in oval cabochon twinkle with reds, oranges, greens and blues - it has a wonderful play of light.

These three cabochon stones are surrounded by a border of eight old-cut diamonds in an open gallery. The band itself has carved scroll shoulders. It is unmarked but fully tests as 18ct gold.

ABOUT OUR JEWELLERY

This piece has been specifically selected by us, for you. We choose vintage and antique items which we think are beautiful, elegant and classic at a range of price points between £30 and £3,000.

Generally, this means we only ever have one of each piece. We don’t select pieces which are “mass market” but rather items which are more individual. This means that once an item has been purchased, it really has gone.

Each piece comes in an attractive jewellery presentation box.
